SSP to Host Unnati Global Forum in Pune

Swayam ShikshanPrayog (SSP), a leading learning and development-focused organization that empowers grassroots women in underserved communities in India, will host Unnati Global Forum in Pune on May 25, 2018. This is the first global event to be hosted by the organization.

Unnati Global Forum will bring to the fore grassroots women leaders, their solutions to global challenges, and their journey towards self-sufficiency. It will strongly emphasize why grassroots women should be the preferred partners for creating lasting change in rural communities and consequently, on a global level.

The Guest of Honor is former Director General of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), Padma Vibhushan Dr. R.A. Mashelkar. A renowned scientist and engineer, Dr. Mashelkar has made remarkable contributions to India in the field of science and technology.

Unnati Global Forum 2018 will also see speakers from around 20 countries and will have panel discussions on sustainable agriculture, women entrepreneurship and leadership, and the need for cross-collaboration for energizing the ecosystem of women networks.

This year’s inaugural event on May 25 will take place in Orchid Hotel, Pune. “With this forum, we intend to break the myths around grassroots women leaders. Our women leaders have proven to their communities and the world their ability to take charge and transform challenges into opportunities,” said Prema Gopalan, Founder and Executive Director of SSP.

Unnati is the first-of-its-kind platform where the people who are most impacted by global challenges – food and income insecurity, climate change, and inaccessibility of resources – formulate solutions for them. It is expected to offer multiple opportunities for cross-collaboration to strengthen the existing ecosystem of women networks. Public organizations and corporates will be able to explore the multiples avenues of providing grassroots women leaders with access to finance and technology.

“We will also introduce Unnati Fellowship for Women Changemakers, where 20 grassroots women leaders will be given financial aid and mentoring to implement their innovative solutions to address local challenges,” said Ms. Gopalan.
