ICC Men's T20 WC'24: Sri Lanka-Nepal Match Called Off Due to Rain
The match in Florida was canceled due to rain before the toss, resulting in both teams receiving one point each. As a result, Sri Lanka is on the verge of elimination, while South Africa secures their spot as the first team to advance to the Super 8 stage. Sri Lanka's next match against Nepal in Lauderhill, Florida is crucial as they desperately seek a win to stay alive in the T20 World Cup. Having suffered two consecutive defeats and with a dismal Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0777, the 2014 champions find themselves at the bottom of Group D.
The Lankan Lions faced a setback with a six-wicket loss to South Africa in their first match, where they were dismissed for 77 runs. Their following game against Bangladesh was a close encounter, ending in a narrow two-wicket defeat. Nepal, having played only one match, also suffered a loss, going down by six wickets to the Netherlands in Dallas, resulting in a negative Net Run Rate (NRR) of -0.539.
Both South Asian teams will aim for their first points on Wednesday while also striving for a significant victory to boost their Net Run Rate. This will help them catch up with Bangladesh and the Netherlands, who currently lead the race for the second spot in Group D, with South Africa virtually guaranteed to advance to the next round.
