Modi Launches Digital Life Certificate For Pensioners

BANGALORE: “Jeevan Pramaan”- an "Aadhar-based Digital Life Certificate" for pensioner launched by the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is an immense step, which will directly provide benefits to old pensioners across the country. Earlier, it was compulsory for the pensioner to present physically before the Pension Disbursing Agency, or submit a life certificate issued by concerned authority, which used to bring great adversity to old and disabled pensioners.

Technology has always been a foremost weapon of the Government, which helps in curbing corruption and successful implementation of various social welfare schemes around the country. The department of electronics and IT has developed a software application that will allow the recording of the pensioner's Aadhar number and biometric details from a computer or a mobile device by plugging in a biometric reading device.

The pensioner details, such as, date, time and other biometric information will be recoded to a central database on real time basis, enabling the pension disbursing agency to access a digital life certificate without causing any pester to the pensioner.

Currently, more than 10 million pensioners receive pension across the country, of which 5 million retired people draw pension from central government alone, and similar numbers from various state government and over 2.5 millions from armed forces. The Aadhar-Based Digital Life Certificate will be a great help in reducing the hardship faced by many senior citizens in getting their own hard-earned money, through proper use of technology.
