BANGALORE: Natural disasters occur without a warning and the casualties incurred in the process are extreme. India recently witnessed two tremendously destructive events that left many people homeless and cities destroyed.

The floods in Kashmir and the rage of Hudhud that destroyed parts of Andhra Pradesh are wake up calls to secure cities and also build better infrastructure to check the destructions of natural calamities. Swiss Re is an organization that researches and studies cities that are more prone to natural disasters. They released some of the cities that have the high risks and here is the list.

Tokyo-Yokohama:

These two cities in Japan are top of the list for the most natural disaster prone cities in the world according to Swiss Re. The cities are seismically active regions and are threatened by their closeness to the sea that brings high risks of being affected by tsunamis.

It also possible that these two cities in Japan that are so close to the sea be submerged by the ocean due to the rise in sea level after a few decades.

Manila:

The capital city of the beautiful country of Philippines is at risk of being submerged as well in the years to come. This city is also seismically active region and prone to tsunamis. It has being subjected to cyclones, floods and earth quakes in the past. With a population of 34 million, the country needs to start planning ways to keep its people safe.

Pearl River Delta:

This city in China, Pearl River Delta is located on the coasts of the China Sea that has over the years been subjected to flooding, cyclones and also earth quakes. This city has a population of over 120 million people. This is a lot of lives at stake if the government does not take necessary measures to safeguard people when there is a natural disaster.
