Which Is Better - One Year MBA or Two Year MBA?

Bangalore: It really is a tough decision to choose between a one year MBA course and a two year course. Both are full-time programmes, but one year MBA programme differs from two year MBA programme. A one year MBA programme has very strict requirements for admission unlike the two year programme. Each programme has its pros and cones. But overall, it is the reputation of the institution and your preference which matters. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of both the courses are discussed below-
One year MBA programmes
The main advantage of a one year MBA course is of course the amount of time you are able to save. You can further specialize on the subject or acquire your dream job once you complete the course. It is highly economical as you need not spend much on college and hostel fee. Moreover you will be able to earn back the money you spent on your education after one year when you get a job. This will prove to be highly beneficial for students from middle class family.
Make sure you have an accurate idea about your future goals and which firm you want to be placed in. Start researching about it in the initial stages itself. You have limited time with you; as such you canât expect a relaxed environment. Be sure to get into a reputed institution as getting placed in reputed firms would be a problem.
Two Year MBA programmes
You have considerable amount of time with you to decide your career goals and work for it. You can train in different companies that help you understand work atmosphere better. This will also be helpful once you apply for jobs. You get more exposure and numerous opportunities will be open for you. Even if you did your course in an average institution you wonât find it difficult to find a job.
A two year MBA course will cost nearly twice the amount you spent on a one year course. Along with your study materials, tuition and accommodation charges, you will also have to afford the living expenses. For students who donât have enough financial backing, it will be difficult to undertake a two year course. Moreover it will be a waste of time for students wishing to settle down with a job at a younger age.
