There are about more than 1,800 MBA institutes in India. So, it is very important to make the right decision while choosing a B-school to pursue your management studies. MBA institutes can be divided into two broad categories, which are Government-aided and Private institutes. Let us try to know this in detail.

Government-aided:

Some Government-aided MBA institutes in India are the seven Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) along with the newly found IIM Ranchi, management departments of various IITs and NITIE, Mumbai University System, and various other government universities. Some of the better ones are FMS Delhi, Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) New Delhi and Kolkata, JBIMS (Mumbai University), Banaras Hindu University and University Business School, Chandigarh.

Private:

Most MBA institutes can be grouped under this category. Some of the top private MBA institutes are MDI Gurgaon, XLRI Jamshedpur and IMT Ghaziabad. Corporate houses also promote some MBA institutes such as BIMTECH and NIRMA Institute of Management.

Some factors to look for while choosing the right MBA institute

Some parameters should be analyzed before you decide to join an MBA institute. An MBA institute should have a unique pedagogy, code of conduct, updated curriculum, faculty, infrastructure, alumni and placements. One should judge these parameters before choosing an MBA institute.
Before taking the admission one should try to visit the campus so that it gives you an idea whether the institute fulfills all the parameters or not. A good MBA institute hones your thinking ability, teaches cross functional competence, functional domain knowledge and team work.

Will the right MBA institute choose you?

Admission in an MBA institute is done in a two way process. Along with you choosing the MBA institute, the B-school should also choose you because even if you want to join top MBA institutes like the IIMs, XLRI, etc., you might not get selected by these institutes. MBA experts suggest that if this happens, you should go for a B-school which matches all your criteria and which is also AICTE approved. One good option is to choose a B-school which is ranked within the top 20 B-schools.
