SOAU Gears Up To Face HudHud, Lines Up 500 Volunteers

Bhubaneswar, Oct. 11 : The SOA University has enlisted 500 volunteers to be utilized for rescue and relief operations in the aftermath of very severe cyclonic storm ‘Hudhud’, expected to hit Andhra Pradesh and parts of Odisha on Sunday.

These volunteers have been drawn from among students of the University, NCC cadets and NSS volunteers, Dr. Manas Kumar Mallick, Director, Institute of Technical Education and Research (ITER), said.

“Though the brunt of the cyclone is expected to be borne by Andhra Pradesh, it is expected to affect some of the southern districts. If our assistance is required at any time, the volunteers will go there to help,” he said.

The volunteers have been drafted from the NCC, NSS, Jaago, the social service club of ITER, Sports Club, Students’ Club and students working as RJs at the Voice of SOA Community, the community radio station of the University.

A meeting was held in the University on Friday where all the 500 volunteers were present. It was also attended by Dr. Mallick, the University’s Chief Administrative Officer, Dr. Deenabandhu Das, Dean (Research), Prof. P.K.Nanda, Dean of ITER, Dr. P.K.Sahoo, Additional Dean of ITER, Dr. Raj Kumar Hota, Coordinator of Centre of Rural and Tribal Development run by the University, Dr. E.Subudhi, NCC Officer Dr. Sachidananda Sahoo, Associate Professor of IBCS, Dr. Jyoti Ranjan Das, Station Director of Voice of SOA Community, Mr. Rusi Patnaik and Sports Officer Mr. Ranjan Kumar Pradhan.

A control room had also been opened at the community radio station having telephone numbers 0674-6004115 and 7381026310 where people within Bhubaneswar could have access to get information or to provide the same. Mr. Rusi Patnaik will be in-charge of the control room.

Besides, a WhatsApp facility had been created for the purpose with telephone number 9337052706, Dr. Mallick informed.
