Bangalore: Shailesh J. Mehta School of Management, IIT Bombay emerged as winners of the CFA Institute Research Challenge India West Zone Final. The institute contended with ten other student teams from top business schools that come under the West Zone. The zonal finals were held on 12th November 2011.
The competition was organized by the Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP). It was supported by three premier organizations - National Stock Exchange (NSE), Bloomberg and Bloomberg UTV as sponsors and long-term corporate partners. Mr. Vidhu Shekhar, CFA, Vice President â New Products and Business Excellence, National Stock Exchange, gave away the cash prizes and trophies that are sponsored by the NSE. The event was hosted at Bloombergâs new office in Mumbai.
The competition saw a triumphant finale that was ongoing over the past four months. The groups displayed solid financial analysis and research capability in performing equity research, in addition to showcasing their investment research and recommendations to the panel of judges.
âWe are building up to hosting the India National Final of the CFA Institute Research Challenge in December where the four zonal winning teams will compete for two places to represent India in the Asia Pacific regional final scheduled for early 2012,â said Namit Arora, CFA, Director, Indian Association of Investment Professionals (IAIP).
Other participating teams in the West Zone Final included Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai); SP Jain Institute of Management & Research (Mumbai); National Institute of Industrial Engineering (Mumbai); Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (Mumbai); Flame - Management School of Business Management Training (Pune); K.J. Somaiya Institute of Management Studies & Research (Mumbai); Sydenham Institute of Management Research and Studies and Entrepreneurship Education (Mumbai); Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development (Pune); Nirma Institute of Management (Ahmedabad); and Goa Institute of Management (Goa).
CFA Institute Research Challenge is a yearly, global educational program supporting the best practices in equity research among the next generation of analysts through hands-on mentoring and intensive training in company analysis and presentation skills. IAIP hosts four zonal finals (i.e. North, East, West, and South zones) which attract 32 leading business schools participating, followed by the National Final held in December.
The local winning teams will advance to the respective regional finals held in Asia Pacific; Europe, Middle East & Africa; Americas; and New York regions. The regional winners will then advance to the global final in the hopes of being crowned the global champion.
