NITIE Organized EnVision for a Green Tomorrow

Bangalore: National Institute of Industrial Engineering (NITIE), Mumbai organized ‘EnVision 2011’, a Carbon Neutral Event on Friday, 26th August 2011. The flagship event of Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Safety and Environment Management (PGDISEM) programme lived up to its core value – "Environmental Vision for the Managers of Tomorrow".

The inauguration ceremony was graced by Dr. Amitabha De, the Director of NITIE, Prof. A. K. Pundir, the Convener of EnVision and Associate Dean of Placements, r. B. M. Ghodeshwar, the Dean of Academics and Prof. Neelima Naik, the Group Coordinator of ISEM. Prof. A. K. Pundir opened the event reminiscing how envision has grown over the years and progressed to be a dais for students to learn about sustainability from the industry leaders and Dr. Amitabha De affirmed that growth should take into account the environmental cost involved in it. Prof. Neelima Naik proposed the genesis and expansion of PGDISEM programme as evidence of recognition of sustainability by the industry.
EnVision-2011 was a daylong event accommodating enlightening discussions and exhilarating competitions - "Ecolloquium" a corporate panel discussion, "EnGauge" a Live case study competition sponsored by InterfaceFlor wherein the First prize was bagged by XIMB and the Second prize by SIBM, Pune, "The Green Lantern" an individual speaker session, "EnQUIZitive" an Enviro Business quiz with the First prize going to SIMB, Pune, and Second prize- SJMSOM, Mumbai and "Almanac" a poster making competition with the theme: “Energy Conservation – First step towards a better tomorrow” (First Prize- NITIE, Mumbai; Second Prize - TAPMI). More than 500 students from top B Schools across India like IIM A, IIM C, IIM L, IIM K, IIM Shillong, MICA, SPJIMR, FMS and MDI participated in the preliminary rounds.

The emphasis of EnVision was on "Ecolloquium", where partisans from the industry came together to focus upon a critical issue in the world of Environment, Corporate Sustainability and Corporate Social Responsibility.
"Gauging risks and benefits in Responsible Business: Companies' Tryst with Reality" was the topic discussed by the panel this year. Mrs. Aloka Majumdar, the Senior Vice President, Corporate Sustainability, Group Public Affairs -HSBC India, Sandeep Hasurkar , Vice president – IL&FS Renewable Energy, Satish Karnik, Vice President Group Corporate Safety Health & Environment at Aditya Birla Group, Rakesh Kumar, Director, NEERI, Vishaal Agrawal , the VP business development of Batelle India, K. T. Ramakrishnan , MD of Rina certification and Shalini Rattan, the Head CSR and Sustainability, igate-Patni were the panellists that participated in the discussion this year. The moderator of the discussion was Arvind Sharma, the Associate Director, KPMG.

As the event came to an end, everyone left with a sense of responsibility towards the environment and an armoured belief in the vital role of Corporate Sustainability in today’s business scenario.
