Bangalore: There is a plethora of standardized tests such as GMAT, GRE including university specific tests to gain entry into the coveted Business schools. There is no doubt that the scores in these tests will place you in a vantage point, but it fails to examine the individual's ability apart from mere scores. Although the letter of recommendation is highly regarded, the reputation and ranking of the previously attended college adds a brownie point too. Nevertheless, these factors cannot be reverted. Your GPA or Grade Point Average and cumulative scores are static. The only way you can prove your worth to the admission authority is to write a rock-solid SOP.
The main purpose of writing an SOP is to elucidate the rationale why you have opted to pursue studies at that particular University. Bragging about the past academic scores does not yield better results here. Rather, the enthusiasm and the passion, which you exhibit or have exhibited in the past adds a greater significance. For instance, you can write about any Business summits or Paper presentations and workshops attended. One of the best-kept secrets is to cite the activities you have undertaken outside the curriculum. Be more specific on the subject of your career goals and never speak in a general manner.
Some Universities give prominence for achievements in sports and other accomplishments. You can state your hobby sports that you have a keen interest in. The assessor is keen on gazing at the determination that you have possessed in the past, defeating all the adversity along the course of previous study or work experience. The evaluator also peruses the grammar and the quality of writing. There are many templates readily available online, but it is up to the discretion of the aspirant to use them, as they are most of the time, misleading and are cliched.
Most of the B- schools have experienced evaluators who can set apart an original SOP from a copied one. If you are proud of your achievements in any field regardless of its relation with the academics, writing more about it will surely makes you stand apart. For example, if you have kicked up a bad habit that you perceived a herculean task such as smoking; or learnt advanced yoga techniques, could go a long way in acceptance. Remember, the evaluators are bored of the same stereotypical SOPs. Try to bring in a new flavor in the essay.
