Bangalore: A degree from college gives you an access to the field of your interest which could later be advanced through the profession you choose. And unless you don’t want to work at all, college gives you the right start. Here’s how you can get specific about the important decision.

Know Yourself: Make sure you know where you fit in. Take a good look at your interests, talents, work experience and innate abilities. Things like considering issues that you are passionate about or products you are fascinated by give you an insight about your potential career. If you are confused and don’t know which direction to head, take a career aptitude test as it helps you get a better picture of your potential and interests or interning at a few places can help too.

Research: Once you've decided on a career you want to pursue, find out the training, skills, education and talent you need to get where you want to be. Find out where and how you can acquire the required credentials.

College: Find out which university, college or institute provides skills and training that is required for the career path chosen by you. Attend job fairs; ask students or alumni of the particular university or colleges to know more about the place.

Resume: Before graduating, discuss the necessities of writing a first resume with a professional or a career counselor. They’ll help you out with writing the perfect resume, finding a job and clearing interviews.

Internships: A shot at testing yourself in a real-life situation in the career world is good as it tells you if you can survive the rat-race. Take up a part time job or do an internship in the sector that you think you think you’re meant for.

Salary: Doing something that sounds fun and pays well is good as it makes you rich. But usually very rare. So consider the money, job outlook, salary and working conditions to see if you can live the choice you made.
