Bangalore: Finding topics for your dissertation is the toughest part than doing the entire research. You have to be extremely careful while choosing the topic as once you have started doing it, there is no turning back. So, before starting on a research paper study various topics and the availability of material. Here are few tips that will help you decide the best topic for your research work-

•First, select 3 or 4 topics that you are aware of and interest you. Then you can do a preliminary study on all these topics, making use of libraries, websites and earlier studies. After that you can fix the topic which will help you to get maximum information.

•Choose topics that you are really interested in and don’t be compelled to choose topic suggested by your guide, which is against your interest. Otherwise you won’t be able to carry out the study confidently and passionately.

•Discuss the topic with your mentor before you start off with the research paper. They can be very helpful by guiding you throughout the research period by giving valuable suggestions on deciding topic, forming headlines, editing copies, etc.

•Before deciding your research topic, try to gain maximum knowledge on the topic from books and websites. Make sure that your topic is not outdated and that adequate information is available on the topic.

•Your topic must be related to your field of study, don’t divert from the actual path. While going for interviews after your course ,your dissertation should prove that it serves some purpose.

•Find out other research works on related topics and go through it. By doing so, you will come to know about the limitations on the topic and you can also try to overcome these limitations.

•Don’t go for topics that are very tough, thinking that it can fetch you more marks. It is not true and can prove to be harmful, instead of helping you.
