Bangalore: Applicants of CAT in Gujarat seemed to be in a fix as the registration website failed to offer them time slots for the test in the state which has only one center for the test this year.
With the slots across all dates of CAT full in Gujarat, candidates preparing to appear for the test are being subjected to opt for nearby centers outside the state like Jaipur and Mumbai to write the test. The shrinking number of CAT test centers in the state from three centers last year to just one this year seems to be worrying the students. Around 7000 â 7500 students appeared for the test in three centers that were located in engineering colleges in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar the previous year.
The MBA communities are concerned about the seating capacity and the infrastructure provided for the 2011 CAT as they have been getting reports of students not finding dates to give their tests at the Ahmedabad site. Though the entrance exam was conducted by the Indian Institute f Management, Ahmedabad (IIM-A) in 2008. 2009 and 2010, this year IIM Calcutta (IIM-C) will be conducting CAT across India with IIM Lucknow supporting them.
With almost a month before the last date for registrations for CAT arrives, all eyes will be on the IIM-C to see how they would ease out the process for the CAT applicants from Gujarat. The last date for registering for CAT is September 28.
