New Delhi, The Taipei Economic and Cultural Center (TECC) in India has short-listed 20 Indian students for Taiwan scholarship 2014, a statement said Tuesday.

These scholarships are being granted under two different programmes - the Taiwan scholarship programme for M.A. and PhD programmes for 2-4 years and the Huayu Enrichment Programme for learning Mandarin for six months.

"An aggregate Rs.1.4 crore will be granted to these students, who will begin their studies on the campuses in Taiwan from this September, said the TECC statement.

There are currently 50,000 foreign students studying in Taiwan, out of which 638 are from India.

"Indian and Taiwanese culture share commonly cherished values; Taiwan is one of the best choices for Indian students. The scholarship programme will surely open a new window of opportunity for them," said Chung Kwang Tien, the TECC representative here.

"Taiwanese universities have been listed amongst the top 100 universities in the world. The higher education degrees and diplomas given by these universities are globally acknowledged. Taiwan has infrastructure, knowledge, facilities and awareness to impart world class education in any field to Indian students," he added.
