Could you tell us briefly about your family background?
We are family of four. Parents are central government employees and a younger sister who is incapacitated.
Prized Accomplishment(s):
Though collge has given me a handful of things to keep my head held high, best was to become the Editor of our College magzine. It was a great honor being awarded as brightest Cultural proctor of college. Then list of achievements since I was part of TAJ, then Main dining section Manager at CWG!!!!
Changes In The Professional Environment:
Work culture is still to reach its acme in hospitality industry. Though new comers are given a platonic platform to hone their skills, on contrary the sentiment of freshers are not considered at any level. In plain words, how can one expect a student to turn into a professional overnight?
Required Reading:
G Raghubalan and branson for Hotel accomodation was great help in technicals. Weekly subscriptions of Hotels and hospitality helps keeping abrest to latest updates in the industry. Online education was not a development forum in Govt. colleges, so u could pardon me on that.
Other Thoughts:
Industry needs to undergo a complete transformation to keep the charm alive not only for the Guest but people who make the place 5 star as well!
Job Profile:
Though I have resigned a month back, I was an asst. Manager in housekeeping department at The Taj Mahal Palace, Mumbai. Ensuring guest rooms are spick and span was the prime responsibility. Administration accounted to paper work in the department. GSTS was another Big responsibility to handle.
Working Life Management:
Well is kind of out of box question to me as hospitality professional. No time to report, No time to Depot! Jokes apart! There is nothing called personal life for initial few years as timing was as varied as 6 am to 11pm.
Advice For New Professionals:
"If you want to reach to the top u have to start from bottom ". Yes and hone your interpersonal skills, they are miracle in this industry.
Role Model:
Well he is none other tan my own cousin brother . He had proved his mettle and now owns his own restaurant in heart of London!
The Journey So Far:
Well, it was hitting the bulls eye. From interview till appointment letter was the test of Patience and then,From training to managing.. It was test of endurance. Corporate world is based on Darwin's theory "Survival of the fittest" . One loop hole and back to level 1.
Plans For The Future:
I look at myself as a balanced person in next few years down the line. Heap of money on cost of extinguished inner "spark" is not what I aim for.
Degrees That Matter:
A Masters may enhance the administrative skills along with the operational management which we already study in HM college. A 3rd language like french, german or Spanish may polish u as a gem for industry.
Done Differently:
I would prefer to add a third language , may be french, to my resume while I was still in college.
Growth Strategy:
"Readers are bound to be leaders". That's what is follow to be a leader.. I am an avid reader.
