Regular Expression

Please provide good material on regular expression, as its a typical topic and in online notes as well as in cd, there is only brief information on topic Regular Expression. Seem its not a so important topic, but when i took assignment, there are five program by regular expression, I was surprised, if its so important, then why there is only brief material.
So please provide more material on this topic with clarity
