Indexing means search engines collecting web pages and storing in its database with categorization. Through this database search engine can respond to the search queries asked by the users. The search engine performs indexing operation through crawlers also known as bots, Bots visit each website and their WebPages and collect the information.
But that also depends on your website if you want to indexed your website then you will use Meta Tag accordingly(Index or no-index). If you use Index meta tag then crawler will crawl your website and in case of no-indexed your web pages will not be added into the web searches index.

Indexed pages are those pages which are crawled by search engines and only these crawled pages will be shown by search engines on searches.

Hi Tarang,

Google is constantly scouring the Web for new content, new websites, and new pages on websites it already knows about. For each site, Google indexes each page that it crawls for future reference, and to be included in search results.

In order for a page to be listed in Google search results, it must first be indexed! When Google's bots crawl a website they create a cached copy of each page, and then adjust their indexes.

It is of course vitally important to have all of the content on your website indexed by Google in order to be included in their search results.
