Would Ashutosh Gowariker have thought that his fictional take on Akbar and Jodhaa would create such a stir? The film narrates the story of the romance between the Muslim Mughal Emperor Akbar the Great, played by Hrithik Roshan, and the Hindu Rajput Princess Jodhabai who becomes his wife, played by Aishwarya Rai.
The movie saw protests from the Rajput community because they felt that the historical facts regarding their community were distorted and that the Rajput history was being compromised on. The protests from the community led to the ban of the movie in states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana and Uttarakhand. But a month after the movie was released the ban was lifted by the Supreme Court.
The movie also saw protests from the Historian community as they said the fats about the relationship between Jodhaa and Akbar was wrong as Jodhaa was Jahangir’s wife.
