4. IRS Compliance Data Warehouse

A project that IRS initiated in 1996 has resulted in the formation of Compliance Data Warehouse and currently stores more than 1 Petabyte of data. The data is in a structured forma and includes electronically filed tax returns, international tax treaty partners and third party coming in XML or unstructured formats. With the help of this accumulated data, IRS runs analytics to identify any theft, tax burden etc and thus assists in forming new policies to the prevailing tax behaviors.

3. University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) Medical Monitoring

The Project Artemis, that UOIT undertook in collaboration with IBM is an information processing system and enables real time support through continuous analysis of data. It was an effort to improve medical monitoring technology that would help it to detect any critical warnings beforehand. This calls for continuous accumulation of data and thus leads to vast amounts that need to be handled.
