66 Percent of Employees Use 2 or More Devices at Work: Forrester

Bangalore: The BYOD trend has swept the enterprise workplace.

A recent survey conducted by Forrester has revealed that 66 percent of employees are now using two or more devices at work every day. These devices include desktops, laptops, smartphones, and tablets.

A majority of the employees, 82 percent, are still using only desktops alongside other devices and 50 percent have been using desktop alone. A small but considerable number of employees, nearly 12 percent, have started using tablets at work.

It has also been revealed that nearly half of the companies are facing security concerns about their employees using smartphones or tablets.

There are 16 percent employees that are using four devices at work though the numbers have slipped down from 20 percent earlier this year.

Most of the companies have now started taking BYOD seriously which has been the main reason behind the availability of wide variety of mobile devices in the workplace.

Nearly 70 percent of the employees were given an option to choose a tablet on their own while only 15 percent companies directly provided a tablet to their employees. The remaining percentage of employees was made to choose from the list that was prepared by the company.

A majority of the companies (54 percent) are now devising strategies to implement and handle BYOD. It can be estimated as many as 18 percent of organizations are implementing corporate app stores that will offer mobile apps to address the requirements of various departments within the organization such as sales, logistics, inventory management etc.
