Qwest Communications appoints Girish Varma as Vice President and CIO
Qwest Communications International Inc. appointed Girish K. Varma as Vice President and Chief Information Officer (CIO). He replaces Balan Nair and will report to Barry K. Allen, Qwest executive Vice President-Operations.

“Girish is an experienced leader and CIO with a vast knowledge of communications systems and the industry,” Allen said. “His background will be beneficial to the Qwest IT organization as it continues to meet the increasing demands of new applications and operational efficiencies.”

With IBM until recently, Varma has 28 years of IT experience within the communications industry. At IBM he served as Vice President-Global Applications Services and Telecom Center of Competency. Prior to this, Varma served in technical leadership roles at Bell Labs for 12 years and then moved through a series of IT roles at AT&T.

Varma holds a bachelor’s degree and a master of science degree from Banaras Hindu University in India, and a doctorate from the City University of New York. He also performed post-doctoral research at Rutgers University prior to joining Bell Labs.

Dr Raghuram promoted to VP Engineering, Berkeley Design Automation
Berkeley Design Automation Inc., announced the promotion of Dr. Raj Raghuram to the position of Vice President of Engineering. Dr. Raghuram was an original member of the company’s development team and the leader of core simulation engine development. He will now lead the overall team, which has expertise in circuit simulation and analysis.

Ravi Subramanian, CEO at Berkeley Design Automation said, “ Dr Raghuram has the leadership skills and vision required to lead our development team as they continue to deliver the industry’s most innovative analog/RF circuit simulation technology.”

Co-founder of Applied Simulation Technology, a circuit analysis software provider spun out of Contec Microelectronics, he is also the author of ‘Computer Simulation of Electronic Circuits’. He received his B. Tech in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Madras and his M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.

Santanu Paul promoted to Head of Global Delivery Operations, Virtusa
Virtusa Corporation, a global provider of software development and IT services, announced the promotion of Santanu Paul as the Head of Global Delivery Operations.

Paul previously held the position of General Manager of the company’s Hyderabad Advanced Technology Center; he will continue in that role as an additional responsibility. “Paul has been a critical member of our team for the last three years and has done an excellent job of leading our Hyderabad Advanced Technology Center,” said Kris Canekeratne, Chairman and CEO of Virtusa. Prior to joining Virtusa in 2003, Paul served as Chief Technology Officer at Openpages. He was also co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Viveca, a startup acquired by Openpages in 2001. Paul has a Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he was a recipient of the prestigious Rackham pre-doctoral fellowship and the IBM Canada fellowship.

Yendluri appointed VP of Engineering, ANTs Software
ANTs Software Inc., appointed Rao Yendluri as Vice President, Engineering. With 25 years of leadership experience in all aspects of relational database, the former IBM and Solid Information Technology database expert will join ANTs to lead the ongoing development programs for the SQL database management systems company.

Commenting on the new appointment, Joseph Kozak, President and CEO of ANTs Software said, “Yendluri is an experienced, result-oriented leader adept at managing R&D teams to effectively deliver high-quality products and we are very pleased to have him join our executive team.”

“Being part of a company with this potential for growth and partnerships is extremely exciting,” Yendluri commented. Yendluri, founder and President of software development firm specializing in data warehousing components iNuCom was previously Vice President of engineering for Solid Information Technology.
