3. Operation West End:
Operation West End has been known as the biggest undercover news story in Indian journalism. In 2001, Tehelka launched its first major sting operation, “Operation West End” to disclose the alleged system of bribery at India’s Ministry of Defense. The two reporters from this newspaper had posed as arms dealers from a bogus company in London. The undercover video shows several politicians and defense officials, including the secretary of the then ruling party BJP, Bangaru Laxman, discussing and taking bribes for helping them obtain government contracts. Subsequently, the tapes led to the suspension and resignation of Laxman and Defense Minister George, and several additional defense ministry officials after it was made public.

4. India TV’s casting couch expose:
The sting operation carried out by India TV to expose casting couch was indeed the biggest shock to the Indian entertainment industry. India TV in a sting operation sent an undercover agent as struggler to the exposed actors Shakti Kapoor and Aman Verma, who were caught on tape seeking sexual favor from the reporter. This sting operation even marked the emergence and prominence of India TV in the mainstream media.
