India's Infamous and Sensational Sting Operations

5. NDTV exposes Sanjeev Nanda:

In 1999, Sanjeev Nanda, a Delhi based businessman and a son of former Navy Chief Suresh Nanda, ran over six people, including three police officers on January 10, 1999 when he drove his BMW  through a police checkpoint. While Nanda and several related parties were initially acquitted and released in a trial in 1999, Nanda was later found guilty in 2008 and sentenced to two five years in prison, which was reduced to time served, a large fine, and two years of community service by the Indian Supreme Court in 2012. But, it was the sting operation by NDTV which showed how Sanjeev’s lawyer R K Anand tried to persuade the prime witness to change his statement. The case attracted maximum media attention.
