IT Giants Betting Big On SMEs


Companies with effective ideas which can offer solutions at affordable prices are driving the startups. And entrepreneurs are able to deliver these solutions in an effective way thanks to the cloud computing and combinatorial innovation.

In the words of Sharad Sharma, Bangalore-based startups mentor "Combinatorial innovation is building an idea which is on top of other people's work. There's a lot of open source (free) software that has already been built. You can combine many of that innovatively, add some things of your own, and create a completely new solution fairly quickly and cost-effectively. And many Indian startups are beginning to do that.

He also added that, combinatorial innovation can be seen in UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) which built the national Aadhaar platform with a staff of just 20 people. And unlike the Indian IT services business model, which saw companies catering primarily to Fortune 1000 companies, the new model is tapping into larger, local markets.
