The most common way of depressing the authorities is by giving them every minute detail about the expenses including the cost of datacenter, CPU cycles usage to developer hours etc. Try avoiding such a scenario in all cases possible and be clear but manipulative in your approach as doing it differently will only hamper your reputation. Remember that there are other methods to put forth your point.

7. DO NOT Stress on ROI

During the initiation of any IT process, it is not advisable to emphasize the need of clear financial return on investment in front of those who know better. Instead be open to all the ideas and give a keen ear to those who have an opinion that matters. Being different from this often leads to the project being shelved or going unfunded and the one who proposed it made to sit in a corner loathing with embarrassment.
