Silicon India is a good website. It contains balanced information on all issues of importance.
I recommend to every professional that he should read one national News Paper that contains good share of international news daily and one current affair magazine of your interest weekly , one magazine of your interest.
I also recommend them reading of self help books, management books ,successs stories and autobiographies to keep us motivated and our tools sharpened
Pain Points:
Theoretically everybody agrees that HR plays very important part in the organisation but practically they feel HR Activities can be suspended and can be put on hold. HR department doesn't do very serious work.
If there is any austerity drive or cost cutting HR department /activities are the first to feel the pressure. This starts worsening the situation
Attract good people, Retain Better Performers and Advance the Best:
It is the essence of HR department, can't answer in 1000 words.
Advice For Fellow HR Leaders:
Be professional and Always be updated with current HR Practices.
be social and be in touch with specilised area experts & always try to learn as much as possible.
It is good to know human psychology and law of the region (specially related with employement).
Helping to develop the country
Professionals need to devote more time and energy for upliftment of society. They need to work more on Education sector- Spreading Education so that it reaches to each strata and on improving the quality of education so that we dont lag behind on competitive measures. They should actively participate in the school/colleges they belong to. Should participate in events like seminars, debates, quizes annual meet, guest lectures , personality development classes so that horizons of students broaden and they get directioin.
Professionals should also contribute their time and money in underprivileged section. Each and every one should attach himself to an orphanage or home for destitutes or old homes.
In India We have a good numbers of professionals ,if each of us even devote one weekend in a month for social cause then half the battle will be won. Our devotion and work will force others to work. Not only this it will work as controlling activity also. Compassion of professionals are needed.
Relationship with HR and Top Management
It is a love-love relationship. All business have to be doned by the employees .The relationship should be based on honesty, confidential but open communication between two strong individuals. The CEO should understand how important is HR department and its function and HR Department should orient itself more towards business strategies and finance
Improving Education system
If we don't consider few top instites of country then quality of education is very pathetic in India. Competitiveness Survey also substantiated this point. We need to work more on overall development of students.Small Cites & villages where technical &global exposure is not much, or where education has entered 1st time in family, they are the worst sufferer. Despite all good intentions&efforts the child dont reach the position he would have reached otherwise. We need to work more there.
We need to do some changes in examination pattern &some in class rooms
Some how in the current semester and annual system of examination , multiple choices many students are getting more than 80% and they don't know that much (80%) subjects they scored in. We need more seminars, projects, practicals , tutorials and thinking & innovation based activity so that concepts are clear. Along with this long answer question should also be involved. If concepts are clear then only student can answer long questions.
