10 Best Android Versions Since Inception; On Its 5th Birthday


Bangalore: It’s been five years, since Google unveiled Android, a mobile device platform, which became the world’s pet within its first three years of existence. On November 5, 2007, along with uncovering Android, Google formed the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of hardware, software and telecommunication companies, intended to create open standards for mobile devices. Android has since then evolved into a beautiful operating system ubiquitously powering more than 500 million devices around the world. Presently, its activations roughly cross 1.3 million per day.

Android 1.0

September 2008

The first commercial version of Android was released in September 2008 and the first ever device to carry the OS was HTC Dream, which was released on September the same year. It had a little resemblance to today’s polished versions but had many features including Android Market Place app, which allows downloading the applications.
