With Android 1.5, Google officially started to use the name of desserts (Cupcake), a theme which would be used for all releases henceforth. The update included several new features and user interface modifications including widgets and bug fixes.

 

Android 1.6 Donut

Android donut added many flavors to the then existed Cupcake. It provided the first high resolution support for Android phones. It was much faster than the previous version and also the mobile data features and Wi-Fi connectivity was improved including enhanced voice search and a new text-to-speech engine.

Android 2.0/2.1 Eclair

Éclair was released just a month after the Donut came to shelves. But Google’s jump into the version 2.0 brought forth several enhancements which marked a new era for Android. It appeared in Motorola Droid and along with Droid, Éclair raised Android’s public appearance significantly.
