Tech Giant Google manufactures Pixel 8 & builds Industrial ecosystem in Tamil Nadu

Google, an Alphabet subsidiary, has reportedly signed an agreement with the Tamil Nadu government to begin production of its Pixel 8 smartphones. The pact also includes initiatives for skill development and establishing an industrial ecosystem to help MSMEs develop scalable AI solutions.

Earlier Google has signed a memorandum of Understanding with the chief minister of Tamil Nadu M K Stalin at its Mountain View office in California in the presence of senior company officials including Google Cloud Vice-President and Head of Platform Amit Zavery, Minister for Industries TRB Rajaa among others.

According to the MoU Google is termed to work with the state government backed nodal agency to promote investments for assisting the robust AI ecosystem in the state.

According to the company statement, this will involve providing access to advanced technologies and resources, with a focus on empowering individuals, businesses, and government entities to utilize AI for inclusive growth and development.

The company also declared that, Google and the Government of Tamil Nadu will expand this collaboration regarding the manufacturing hub of Pixel 8 phones.

The report also added that, this strategic collaboration will assist the government to upskill Tamil Nadu’s workforce with AI capabilities, explore AI learning initiatives under the scheme called ‘Naan Mudhalvan’.

It will help the youth of the state by enhancing digital education in Tamil Nadu to build a future-ready workforce.

Industries Minister TRB Rajaa expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Google on advanced manufacturing, including the production of the Made in India Pixel 8 phone in Tamil Nadu. He noted that the MoU signed today will focus on key AI initiatives through the Tamil Nadu AI labs.

He also highlighted the Chief Minister’s “Naan Mudhalvan” program, which aims to provide Tamil Nadu’s youth with future-ready AI skills and foster innovation in key sectors such as startups, mobility, and healthcare.

Regarding startups and innovation, Google stated it will collaborate with the state’s startup ecosystem to provide mentorship and networking opportunities with Google experts and industry leaders.

Google Cloud Vice-President and Head of Platform Amit Zavery, mentioned, “We are thrilled to partner with the Tamil Nadu government on their journey towards an AI-powered future. This collaboration underscores our shared commitment to fostering inclusive growth and technological progress through AI.”

He also added that, Google expressed eagerness to develop a vibrant AI ecosystem in Tamil Nadu that would drive innovation, create opportunities, and equip individuals with the skills needed to thrive in the digital age.
