DTDC Express Partners with ONDC for Logistics Transformation
DTDC Express has joined the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), a government-supported open protocol for e-commerce. In its initial phase, DTDC intends to operate within 5,000 pin codes across 100+ Tier I, II, and III cities, aiming for eventual expansion to cover all 14,700+ pin codes. The company plans to introduce and improve services such as next-day delivery, pick-up and drop-off facilities, and enhanced reverse logistics as part of its offerings on the platform.
Abhishek Chakraborty, Executive Director of DTDC India, highlighted the company’s commitment to catering to the escalating needs of SMEs, small-scale enterprises, entrepreneurs, and local vendors. The primary objective is to offer comprehensive logistics solutions that empower businesses, even in the most remote parts of India. Leveraging its collaboration with ONDC, DTDC aims to tap into a network comprising 1.5 lakh sellers and small-scale entrepreneurs. The courier service aims to achieve a daily shipment volume of 1,500 to 2,000 by the year-end. This strategic move aligns with DTDC’s dedication to leading the changing logistics landscape and delivering efficient services to its clientele.
In a recent development, logistics startup XpressBees also became part of ONDC, expanding its nationwide delivery services to encompass over 20,000+ pin codes across 2,800+ cities. This emphasizes the increasing impact and outreach of ONDC, fostering a robust network of logistics partners. Since its inception last year, ONDC has consistently welcomed significant players into its ecosystem. Earlier participants include Shiprocket, Dunzo, eKart, Ecom Express, Loadshare, and Grab. Notably, logistics service provider Delhivery joined the ONDC network in December 2022, further enhancing the platform’s capabilities and extending its presence within India's e-commerce landscape.
