Labuschagne Returns as Green Ruled Out of India ODIs
  • Marnus Labuschagne replaces injured Cameron Green in Australia’s ODI squad
  • Green out with side soreness, will miss India series
  • Labuschagne called up after strong domestic form

Australia have made a late change to their ODI squad for the India series, with Marnus Labuschagne stepping in to replace Cameron Green, who has been sidelined with low grade side soreness.

Green, recently back to bowling after missing the New Zealand T20Is, was expected to be eased into action. However, Cricket Australia’s medical team ruled him out as a precaution, prioritising his recovery ahead of the upcoming Ashes series.

Labuschagne, who wasn’t initially part of the squad after a poor outing in South Africa, gets another shot thanks to his red-hot form in the Sheffield Shield, where he scored his fourth century of the season for Queensland. He’ll join the Australian camp in Perth after finishing the current domestic match.

Green had played a limited role in Western Australia’s recent Shield match, restricted to just four overs due to bowling recovery protocols. While he was unlikely to bowl in the first two ODIs against India, he had been planning to build up his workload over the coming weeks.

Australia is already managing several injury concerns, with captain Pat Cummins recovering from back stress, and pacers Sean Abbott and Brendan Doggett also on the sidelines. Jhye Richardson is making progress but is yet to play after shoulder surgery.

Green is expected to return in time for the next Shield round as part of his Ashes preparation, but his absence opens the door for Labuschagne to make a timely comeback.
