The match remained level at 1-1 when, just seven minutes into the second half, defender Korou Konthoujam sent a long ball into Iran’s half. Iranian defender Amirmahan Afrooziani missed his clearance and fell, allowing India’s Gunleiba Wangkheirakpam to pounce. Positioned on the left flank, Gunleiba controlled the ball and fired a powerful shot that deflected off Mohammad Ali Rahnama and landed in the net. The goal sent the Indian dugout into wild celebrations, with Gunleiba receiving a yellow card for removing his shirt during the moment of joy.
After taking the lead, India faced intense pressure as Iran pushed aggressively for an equalizer. For more than 40 minutes, the Indian defense stood strong, clearing every ball with urgency and staying composed under continuous attacks.
