Rohit Sharma has been officially named the tournament ambassador for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, which will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka from February 7 to March 8 next year. ICC chairman Jay Shah made the announcement during the tournament schedule reveal in Mumbai on November 25.
Rohit, one of India’s most celebrated cricketers, brings unmatched experience to the role. He first lifted the T20 World Cup trophy in 2007 under MS Dhoni’s captaincy and later made history by leading India to the 2024 T20 World Cup title with a thrilling win over South Africa in Barbados. With two T20 World Cup wins, he remains the only Indian player to achieve this feat.
After the 2024 victory, Rohit and Virat Kohli retired from T20Is, marking the end of an era in Indian cricket. Speaking at the event, Rohit said he felt honored to be chosen as an ambassador and highlighted that no active player had previously received this recognition. He expressed gratitude to the ICC and Jay Shah, calling it a “big privilege” to represent such a major global tournament.
