Qatar's Amir to Meet PM Modi, Receive Ceremonial Welcome Today
Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani is on a two-day state visit to India, his second since March 2015. At the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Emir arrived in New Delhi on Monday evening, where PM Modi himself received him at the Air Force Station in Palam. The gesture was a warm one and showed the close relationship between the two countries.
On Tuesday morning, Sheikh Tamim will be given a ceremonial welcome at the forecourt of Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am with a high-level delegation consisting of ministers, top officials, and businesspersons. After the reception, the Emir will attend a bilateral meeting with PM Modi at 12 pm at Hyderabad House. During the meeting, the discussions would be centered around further deepening the historical connections between India and Qatar and considering different common interests.
At 1:00 pm, the exchange of Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) will occur, symbolizing a key milestone in strengthening the India-Qatar cooperation. In the evening, at 7:00 pm, Sheikh Tamim will host President Draupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The Emir's visit is also expected to further strengthen the strategic ties between the two nations, with a focus on fields like trade, energy, and cultural cooperation. The day will end with Sheikh Tamim's departure from India at 9:05 pm.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) tweeted on X, "A special gesture for a special friend! PM Modi received HH Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, Amir of Qatar, at the airport, as he landed in New Delhi on his second state visit to India".
