5. Swami Sadachari:

Swami Sadachari, is another controversial godman in India. He was once a spiritual advisor and tantric for many top political honchos of the country including former Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. Currently, he is behind bars for running a brothel. The once-influential godman, who is believed to have performed rituals even at a prime minister’s residence, was nabbed only when he fell out of favour with those in power.

6. Sri Jayendra Saraswathi:

Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal is the 69th Shankaracharya of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham and the head or pontiff (Peetadhipathi) of the Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. He is another spiritual guru who was arrested in November 2004 on the charged of being the prime accused in the murder of Sankararaman, a temple manager and a former devotee of Kanchi mutt. He allegedly ordered murderous assault by hiring thugs on auditor Radhakrishnan who questioned the missing gold of 83 Kg that was meant for Kamakshi temple. The Supreme Court transferred the case from Tamil Nadu to Pondicherry on 26th October, 2005.
