Bangalore Gets Its First No-Pothole Road, But for VVIPs

Bangalore: It would be a miracle to see pothole free roads in India and this indeed is about to happen. Bangalore, the IT hub of India, is about to get a road free of potholes. While the road is to open for commuters soon, its target audience is VVIPs. Yes! And this is because the road lies in the central part of the city and leads to the entrance of the state legislature, which is used by senior ministers.

50,000 complaints were received by the city’s municipal corporation in the last two months, where the residents criticized the potholed roads in different parts of the city, as reported by Radhika Iyer for NDTV.

The road which the municipal corporation has given the first priority and spent 25 lakhs on was laid down in only three days. With a seven inch thick layer and imported technology being used, the officials are confident the road will need no maintenance for 30 years.

As per the officials the cement used is much stronger and better than the type used even for bridges and skyscrapers. However, it costed them 25 percent more than what would normally be spent on a tar road.

M  Somashekhar, Chief Engineer of the municipal corporation was quoted saying by the NDTV, "We began this on a pilot project... the road cannot get cut. Other roads like you see normally are classified as flexible pavements which need repair and maintenance every 3 to 5 years."

While, there is a ray of hope to see pothole free roads in India, only time will tell how much of a success this endeavor will be.
