India's Metropolitan Commuters Still Troubled by Potholes

Bangalore: Monsoon has its own pros and cons in the life of the masses in India, as without the arrival of monsoon one gets to witness droughts and lesser production of food. And on the other hand with the monsoons setting in, it is accompanied with potholes wherever one go. So, People are mystified as to who is to be blamed for such inconvenience; to blame the rains or the inactive governments, reported by Kajal Iyer, Smitha Nair and other reporters for CNN-IBN.

The people of big metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore are the real victims of potholes as the concerned authorities who in spite of claiming to spend lakhs and crores of rupees on maintenance of roads have not addressed the problem. The commuters still come across this nuisance created by potholed roads.

In Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had claimed to spend around Rs 3,800 crore since 2008 in reconstruction of roads and Rs 336 crore for potholes and spot repairs. Still, there are no signs of improvements in the roads. As such, questions arise from people about the funds allocated for the roads construction.

Potholes still continue to trouble travelers in the financial capital of the country despite the fact that already crores have been funded for over five years on reconstruction of roads in the city. One of the commuters said, "It's a nightmare to drive on Mumbai roads. BMC hasn't done anything over the years to improve the condition of Mumbai roads,” reported CNN-IBN.
