She once ran out of regular baker’s chocolate and substituted it with broken chocolate pieces thinking it will melt in the batter, but they didn’t and the chocolate chip cookies were born. Wakefield sold the recipe to Nestle in exchange for a lifetime supply of chocolate chip.
