Veteran Bollywood legend Dharmendra, fondly known as 'He-Man' and 'Dharam Paaji', passed away at the age of 89. His death has left fans, colleagues, and the film industry grieving the loss of a star whose influence shaped generations of Indian cinema.
Dharmendra rose to stardom in the 1960s and 70s, delivering unforgettable performances in classics like Sholay, Chupke Chupke, Anupama, and Satte Pe Satta. Celebrated for his striking looks, effortless charm, and powerful screen presence, he earned the title of Bollywood’s original action hero. Over the years, he proved his versatility with roles in romance, drama, comedy, and action, becoming one of the industry's most admired and relatable actors.
His warm off-screen personality made him deeply loved within the film fraternity. Known for his humility and affection, he earned the endearing name 'Dharam Paaji' among peers and fans.
Tributes have been pouring in since the news broke. Filmmaker Karan Johar called him a 'bonafide legend' and said the industry has lost an irreplaceable icon. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief, noting that Dharmendra’s simplicity, warmth, and emotional depth made him special to millions.

Dharmendra was last seen in Ikkis, where he played the father of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal. The film, releasing in December 2025, marks one of his final on-screen performances.
He is survived by wives Hema Malini and Prakash Kaur, and his children, including actors Sunny Deol, Bobby Deol, Esha Deol, and Ahana Deol.
