Show explores mental health in Indian families through humor
Pankaj Tripathi has stepped into production with Perfect Family, a new dramedy set to premiere on November 27 on the JAR Series YouTube channel. The eight-episode show marks one of India’s first long-format series released through YouTube’s structured pay model, offering a fresh and affordable digital viewing experience.
Produced by Ajay Rai of JAR Pictures and Mohit Chhabra, and created by Palak Bhambri, the series follows a middle-class family forced into therapy after an incident involving their young daughter. Using humor and relatable situations, the show highlights how Indian families often avoid conversations around mental health.
The YouTube pay model, where the first two episodes are free and the remaining can be unlocked through a one-time payment of Rs 59, aims to make premium content accessible to viewers worldwide without relying on traditional OTT platforms. Each episode runs 35-40 minutes.
The series, directed by Sachin Pathak, features a strong ensemble cast including Gulshan Devaiah, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Seema Pahwa, and Girija Oak. Tripathi said the concept and distribution format made the project stand out. He noted that YouTube has evolved into a powerful space for long-form storytelling, making it the right platform for his first venture as a producer.
