Adani Group Expands Aviation Services with MRO and Pilot Training
  • Adani plans to enter engine MRO and passenger-to-freighter aircraft conversions, strengthening its end-to-end aviation services capabilities
  • Aviation services arm to significantly scale MRO operations and pilot training infrastructure across multiple cities nationwide
  • Large-scale investments aligned with India’s rapidly expanding aviation market and long-term growth outlook

Adani Group is stepping up its bet on India’s booming aviation sector with plans to enter engine maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) and passenger aircraft-to-freighter (P2F) conversions. The move strengthens the group’s fast-expanding aviation services portfolio beyond airport operations.

The conglomerate has clearly separated its aviation strategy into two verticals, airport infrastructure and aircraft services. The aircraft services business will cover both civilian and defense needs. As part of this plan, Adani is merging the capabilities of Air Works and Indamer to create a single, large MRO platform, according to Jeet Adani, Director of Adani Airport Holdings Ltd.

Adani entered the MRO space in December with the acquisition of Air Works for an enterprise value of  Rrs 400 crore. This was followed by a deal through Adani Defence Systems and Technologies Ltd to acquire Indamer Technics, further strengthening its position in defense and commercial MRO services. The group now plans to expand into landing gear, aircraft painting, P2F conversions, and eventually engine maintenance.

The aviation push also includes pilot training. Last month, Adani acquired a majority stake in Flight Simulation Technique Centre (FSTC), marking its entry into flight simulation and training. FSTC currently operates 15 simulators, but the group aims to scale this to 45-50 simulators across India over the next two to three years, citing strong demand.

Adani is also expanding MRO bases to new locations such as Ahmedabad, Guwahati, and Bhubaneswar. These investments come as Indian airlines prepare to induct around 1,700 aircraft in the coming years, creating demand for nearly 30,000 new pilots.

Recently, the group announced a Rs 1 lakh crore investment plan in its airports business over five years, betting on sustained double-digit growth in India’s aviation market.
