Satyam listed on Euronext in Amsterdam
In a big leap for the Indian IT industry, Satyam computers listed its American Depository Shares (ADS) on Euronext in Amsterdam, and has become the first company to be listed on three major bourses across the world. The company can directly access a larger pool of capital, and give investors across the European Union (EU) an opportunity to directly invest in the company. The company has already been listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE).

Persistent, IBM set up center of excellence
Persistent Systems, a Pune based outsourced software product development (OPD) company, recently joined IBM to set up a Center of Excellence (CoE) for IBM’s rational products. The CoE will help the company to build a virtual community of developers, support teams, and service professionals who specialize in supporting IBM products to share ideas, solutions, and resources. The new initiative will help Persistent to deliver innovative solutions and develop products. Sriram Rajan, VP, IBM Software Group, IBM India, finds this CoE as an example of how companies can come together to help organizations maximize the returns on investments and improve performance.

Anil Ambani nurturing Tech Reliance
For the Reliance Group, it has always been about the scale, be it petrochemicals, communications, entertainment, power or finance. Now, Tech Reliance, a technology consultancy services from the Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG), is set to make a splash shortly. The company will initially focus on providing services to various industries like telecommunication, financial services, utilities, entertainment, and healthcare. Tech Reliance plans to launch operations from four to five development centers across the country, out of which Bangalore and Mangalore will possibly be the first launch centers. The Bangalore center is engage in product-oriented research and software development for copiers, printers, and consumer electronics devices. Apart from providing services to the group companies, Tech Reliance will also provide services to diverse sectors across India.

Music for the chips
Magma Design Automation, a provider of chip design software for electronic design automation tools, conducted a two-day event, Magma Users Summit on Integrated Circuits (‘MUSIC’) for users to share and exchange ideas on how they use Magma solutions to meet the challenges of Integrated Circuit (IC) and System on Chip (SoC) design. The program covered key elements of semiconductor design from system-level design to tape-out. There were various discussions on automated full-chip floor planning, low-power usage, design for manufacturability, and physical verification.

Intel jumps from big to small
Intel’s Chief Technology Officer, Justin Rattner at an Intel event at Bangalore in January 2008 opened his speech with the phrase ‘from Beijing to Bangalore’ to talk about Intel’s journey across megalopolises and the jump upwards to tinier silicon. Rattner gave an update on research undertaken on the 80-core teraflop research processor first showcased last year. This is the world’s first programmable chip to deliver more than a teraflop of performance while consuming only 62 watts of power and is another project co-developed by the Bangalore and Oregon teams of the Circuit Research Lab at the Corporate Technology Group.

The Intel India Research Center is the India presence of the CTG. The ultimate goal of the center is to accelerate the convergence of computing and communications. The labs are situated across 15 locations worldwide, which are run by nearly 1000 researchers.
