Still it continues the revolution, with its Apps store recording over 25 million applications being downloaded by iPhone and iPod Touch owners. Today, the store that sells games, ring tones, and organizers for the iPhone and iPod Touch offers some 800 applications, a quarter of them free from hundreds of companies around the world in a variety of categories including games, business, news, sports, health, reference, and travel. These numbers are stunning. No other mobile applications store has ever come close to this kind of sales volume.

Many of these new applications take advantage of iPhone’s large display, Multi-Touch user interface, fast hardware-accelerated 3D graphics, built-in accelerometer, and location-based technology to bring far more powerful applications to the mobile arena than ever before. The App Store on iPhone works over cellular networks and Wi-Fi, which means it is accessible from just about anywhere, so that users can purchase and download applications wirelessly and start using them instantly. The store requires that users first download iTunes 7. iTunes 7.7 to sync music, video, and more with iPhone 3G, and download applications from the iTunes Store is exclusively designed for iPhone and iPod Touch with software version 2.0 or later. To install the applications, iPod Touch users need to purchase iPhone Software 2.0, which is available for $9.95.

In India, the App Store is available now via iTunes 7.7 for iPod Touch users. Applications are free or chargeable to the user's iTunes account and the App Store notifies the user when updates are available for their apps. The App Store is also available in iTunes running on a Mac or PC, which syncs applications to the iPod Touch using a USB cable.
