4. Bank of New York

The oldest bank in the United States established in 1784, and yes they also have the One Wall Street as their address to prove it, this is none other than Bank of New York. After around eight years of its formation, it was the first company that was publicly traded alongside when in 1792 the New York Stock Exchange opened. A respected attorney of those times Alexander Hamilton was the owner of this oldest bank. In 2007 when Mellon Financial Corporation merged with Bank of New York, the bank was renamed as the Bank of New York Mellon.

5. Bank of Scotland

Bank of Scotland is a commercial and clearing bank that was established in 1672 and based in Edinburgh, Scotland. Being built in 17th century, this bank was the first to print the owned paper currency when this was a rare concept in Scotland. Once even Royal Bank of Scotland was a rival for Bank of Scotland and the rivalry reached a point where the bank almost sunk but they still survived. Bank of Scotland became HBOS in 2001 after merging with Halifax Bank.
