BANGALORE: Ever since it has been a tradition that new technologies with new features replace the older ones but there are several tech products that were the reason for their own doom.

1. Quadraphonic Sound

It’s a four channel system in which speakers are present at the four corners of audible area and thus producing sound from those corners. It seemed to be a commercial failure because the format was incompatible and consist of various technical faults.

The expensive Quadraphonic sound system was much more expensive than two channel stereo system; moreover, the system required specially designed decoders and amplifiers. The rise of home theatre system in late 1980’s kicked out the Quadraphonic Sound systems from the markets.

2. Betamax

A recording format developed by Sony in 1975, was first introduced in Japan. It was a magnetic tape recording analog type format; it had no guard band and was too expensive in comparision to its feature.

The introduction of VHS VCR in the market beat Betamax technology. Along with the recording time tendency VCR was easily affordable to common masses in almost at one third price of Betamax.
