FIFA World Cup: Five Memorable Semi Finals



 

8 July 1982: West Germany vs. France in Spain

This was the 12th FIFA world cup that held in Spain. It was a very crucial match as European Footballer of the year and the captain of Wes Germany Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was injured and sitting on the bench. At 17th minute WG goaled the first shot.

At 27th minute Platini converted a penalty that France got because of Bernd Forster for holding Dominique Rocheteau. The score was 1-1 and the teams played two periods of 15mintes of extra time.

In the first period, Marius Tresor put France ahead by putting a goal form 11yards followed by Alain Giresse’s goal in 98th minute.  At this time Rummenigge entered the game and goaled after four minutes. Fischer equalized the game by putting a goal for West Germany in the third minute of second extra time.

The shootout began and the first two rounds of shots were converted by both the teams. Finally in the third round Ettori blocked the shot by Uli Stielike and Rocheteau converted the shot for France. The score was 3-2. In fourth round WG equalized the score and in fifth both the teams scored. At last in the sixth round Horst Hrubesch converted the victory of WG as Maxime Bossis’s shot was blocked.

In the finals WG lost from Italy by 3-1.
