In the year 1699, Sri Guru Gobind Singh, the tenth Guru of Sikhs, visited Talwandi Sabo (District: Bathinda, Punjab) and stayed here for about a year. He blessed this place as ‘Guru Ki Kashi’ i.e. Place of Knowledge and Learning. True to His blessings, the town is humming with educational activities. The place is also known as ‘Damdama Sahib’ and is one of the five temporal seats of Sikh Religion.

With the blessings of Tenth Guru, ‘Balaji Educational Trust’ was established in the year 1997, with a mission to uplift the area by creating world class education facilities. In the year 1998, the Trust started Guru Gobind Singh Polytechnic College, which is now a famous polytechnic of the area with an intake of 1200 students. In the year 2001 Guru Gobind Singh College of Engg. & Technology (GGSCET) came into existence, followed by the GGS College of Education which was established in 2005. Then GGS Institute of Information Technology & Research was added to the group in the year 2006. Now these colleges are the constituent colleges of Guru Kashi University, which has been established in year 2011 by an Act of the State Government.

GKU is offering a wide range of programmes in Engineering, Management, Education, Agriculture, Languages, Life Sciences and Applied Sciences. A barren patch of 45 acres of land has been turned into a lush green most modern and high tech educational campus.

The Training and Placement Cell acts as an interface between the students at GKU and the industry, and enables the students to make better and more attractive career choices. These cells gives career guidance to students arranges training programmers and facilitate job placements. The placement cell invites officers from/ academia and corporate to share their knowledge and experience with students through guest lectures, workshops, and seminars, and helps those securing suitable positions. Our students have been well placed in leading private/ public sector organizations. The Training & Placement Cell firmly believes in ‘Industry – Institute Interaction’. In order to accomplish ‘Industry – Institute Interaction’, it organizes technical talks and national seminars to provide a platform for the budding engineers to interact with professionals from various industries. It encourages visit to the industries by the college students. It arranges for industrial problems to be worked on by students as part of their projects. It also takes suggestions from members of industry regarding designing/changing of curriculum. The college has signed MOUs with many industrial organization and industrial chambers. Technical paper presentation contests are held in collaboration with industries to discuss new development and trends. ‘Training and Placement Cell’ is headed by an experienced ‘Training and Placement Officer and a competent team. Department organizes practical training in modern State-of-the-Art industries. They also provide information and guidance about higher studies and job opportunities as well as training for communication skills and personality development, training for facing the interviews, Career counseling and guidance. Job placement in premier industries through campus interviews as well as off campus.

The students of GKU (formely GGS group of Institutes) are placed in companies of high repute such as Dell Internationals, IBM Bangalore, Tech Mahindra, Wipro Technologies, Infosys, Mother-son Sumi, Sonalika, HCI, Aniweb Designs ATS Infotech, Info innovate, Xsys Technology, Neural Info Pvt.
