Young Aggarwals Dominate the Indian e-commerce Sector

The texts and legends of the Aggarwal community trace long back to the legendary Kshatriya king Agrasena of the Sun Dynasty who adopted Vanika dharma for the benefit of his people. Literally, Aggarwal means the people of Agroha, a city in ancient Kuru Panchala, near Hisar in Haryana region said to be founded by Agrasena. They are known as one of the staunchest vegetarians. Some people attribute their deep religious attachment and vegetarianism to their success, as mentioned by a member of the community as this is the reason which allows them to invest in businesses rather than harmful personal pleasures like alcohol and cigarettes.

"The community has traditionally had a strong presence in trading. These (Internet) entrepreneurs seem to be playing on this traditional strength and applying it to the Internet age," said Krishna Tanuku, executive director of the Wadhwani Centre for Entrepreneurship at the Indian School of Business (ISB) in Hyderabad.
