Apps Developed by Indian Startups Make Studying More Fun

Bangalore: Indian Entrepreneurs have created applications that bridge the gap between studying and fun. Now students are learning faster and are more eager to study both in class and at home.

"I am a believer that such technology can transform education in India," said Sharad Sharma, former CEO of Yahoo India R&D and an executive council member of the National Association of Software & Services Companies. The entrepreneurs behind the education software, belong to June, eDreams Edusoft, Studypad and Tabtor, and they are all trying to make even something as hated as homework fun. They are also targeting a lucrative market - the opportunity for digital education content is estimated to be over $3 billion (about Rs 16,150 crore) in India alone.

"This is the next generation of learning," said Roby John, 35, cofounder of June Software. "Information learnt through games sticks in the mind." June Software, which operates under the brand 'TapToLearn', has also created apps for mathematics and vocabulary that are used in 1,000 schools in the US, India and other countries. The applications have been downloaded over 10 million times on Apple's app store.
