Mumbai: The average Indian may not consider Mumbai as a cheap city, but the survey by Economic Intelligence Unit declares it the least expensive city in the world for expatriates. Mumbai, the fifth most populous city in the world is also the wealthiest city of India. The EIU report says, “Mumbai’s title as the world’s cheapest city and is a reflection of the structural factors that define price within the Indian subcontinent.”The EIU report cites low wages, easy availability of goods and government’s subsidizing policy as factors responsible for making Mumbai the city with best value for money. The average price of 1 kg loaf of bread in Mumbai is $0.91, cheapest in the whole world.
